Capacity Building for organizations has evolved as a concept. What once began as a practice to strengthen individual skills has now moved to a holistic approach to build, systems, processes and knowledge within organizations.
The core function of capacity building is sustainable organization development. This is grounded in the principle that strengthening capabilities of different functions forms the foundation for overall organization strength and sustainability. By building capacities, we equip organisations with the capabilities to independently and effectively deliver their mission thereby increasing their potential to have a positive social impact over time.
Sustainable development refers to the ability to meet the present needs of the organization while developing their ability to independently fulfil future requirements. This requires employing techniques that ensure long term enduring change and institutionalising solutions.
We collaborate to co-create solutions set within the context of the developmental sector and the individual organization needs and challenges with ongoing support to institutionalize solutions. The specific components of organizational capacity are technical, operational, programmatic, governance and leadership, and the ability to respond to and influence the ecosystem.
The process aims to take the organization through the following cycle; from awareness to adoption to behavioural change which finally leads to advocacy and institutionalisation at the organisation level.
To achieve sustainability of solutions it is essential to inculcate sound change management practices that are underpinned by behavioural change. This change is driven by instilling motivation, developing ability, promoting a strong change mindset and building a supportive environment. Practically, co-creating solutions with stakeholders, creating governance structures for tracking and measurement and quick course corrections help with long term adoption.
