The fourth “win” of Corporate Skilled Volunteering

The fourth “win” of Corporate Skilled Volunteering

2 mins read

When I joined Social Lens as an Analyst four months ago and began working in the Corporate Skilled Volunteering vertical, I was determined to learn everything about this branch of volunteering that I admittedly knew nothing about.

When I typed “skilled volunteering” on my search bar, about twenty-five articles popped up. A recurring phase that I noticed across all of them was that a skilled volunteering engagement is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. The three beneficiaries mentioned were the volunteers, the corporate organisation and of course, the nonprofit. While that is definitely accurate, the puzzle didn’t entirely seem complete to me because it didn’t factor in the impact of skilled volunteering engagements on project managers.

As a project manager for several such engagements, I have come to realise that every single conversation with nonprofit organisations have been an incredible learning experience and the biggest source of inspiration for me. My communications and interpersonal skills are challenged and developed everyday. Throughout the course of the different projects, I have learned how to identify areas of support and needs that organisations have, to make recommendations on the course of action and to support in designing sustainable solutions for them. Adding to that, the feeling of gratitude, motivation and encouragement when a project is successfully completed is unparalleled.

Like everyone who enters the social impact and philanthropy sector, my objective was to change the world. Here, at Social Lens, with an incredibly passionate and hardworking team, I get to change the world one organisation at a time.
