The only way to do great work is to love what you do!

The only way to do great work is to love what you do!

20 months ago when I began my professional journey, I felt like I was standing at the starting point of a treasure map. Admittedly, I felt intimidated; I was eager to quickly absorb the traces and trails left by predecessors, and prove myself as much as I wanted to learn from among a diverse and young group of talented counterparts.

Over the course of the next few months, I dove deep into the ebb and flow of social impact consulting. I was fortunate enough to collaborate with multiple teams and work on a wide range of projects, from managing employee engagement programs for corporate clients to optimising and redesigning our virtual volunteering platform.

Amidst daily setbacks and rising concerns owing to recurring waves of the pandemic, additional responsibilities came with an increased sense of accountability, and professional challenges incited problem solving skills within me. Certain days brimmed with routine tasks, and design thinking workouts brought about the ‘good’ kind of anxiety. Moments of glory were realised through multi-stakeholder partnerships that led us to innovative and sustainable solutions designed pro-bono for organisations and communities looking to build their capabilities. As the sector transformed to catch up with the accelerating ‘fourth revolution’, our work at Social Lens evolved and expanded simultaneously, and so did the people, programs and processes

Every few months, my CEO would ask me a simple question – ‘Do you enjoy your work?’. My answer to this question never wavered and almost as a reflex, I would nod my head in silent acknowledgement. Working ‘behind the lens’ has been the conduit to realising deep-rooted talents within me and surprising myself each day with a newfound perspective and an internal drive to do something more, something new. Being happy at work has made me move forward from my mistakes, find my purpose, fuel my productivity and find my ‘zen’.

As new opportunities arise, I look forward to reaching greater heights along with Social Lens, as we continue to strive towards its mission fulfillment.
